The Music Department will present “Musica a Contraluz: An Evening of Spanish Music” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Corley Auditorium at Missouri Southern State University.
The Spanish vocal and brass music performance will be under the direction of Dr. Jordan Wilson and Freddie Green. It will feature solo and ensemble repertoire from various eras of Spanish history, including traditional songs in regional dialects of Spain, which are rarely heard outside of their native land.
The performance is free and open to the public.
Other activities planned next week on campus include lectures and book signings by author Nellie Bennett, screenings of the film “Southpaw” and activities scheduled in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Monday, Nov. 16
Social Entrepreneurship Project: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Billingsly Student Center Ballroom. Come for free snacks and help the Rapha House, a local non-profit, create a social media campaign for 2016.
Senior Percussion Recital: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Austin Morris, an instrumental music performance major, will present his senior recital.
Tuesday, Nov. 17
Entrepreneurship Club Meeting: 12:20 to 12:50 p.m., Room 108 in Plaster Hall. The Entrepreneurship Club will hosting guest speaker Michael Magoulas, CEO of Component Packaging.
Gift Card Bingo: 12:20 p.m., Lion’s Den. First 10 winners will receive restaurant gift cards courtesy of the Campus Activities Board.
Customized Start-Up Kit for Student Entrepreneurs: 1 to 3 p.m., Room 108 in Plaster Hall. Stop by to meet with the staff of the MSSU Center for Entrepreneurship and receive a free customized business start-up kit.
“Volver”: 7 to 9:10 p.m., Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall. The final installment of the Spanish Film Festival is a comedy-drama by Pedro Almodóvar featuring Penelope Cruz. A mother returns from the dead to intervene in her daughters' troubled lives and reveals shocking secrets that will affect everyone. Rated R for some sexual content and language.
Wednesday, Nov. 18
GoVenture Interactive Game: 8 a.m. to noon, Edward Jones Investment Lab in Plaster Hall. Students will start a business and then play out their business choices through a simulated competitive environment. This interactive game will take between 10-20 minutes to play.
Why Don't You?: 10 to 10:50 a.m., Corley Auditorium. Nellie Bennett, author of “Only in Spain,” will discuss her travel experiences.
Stuff a Lion: 10:30 a.m., Lion’s Den. Students with ID can make their own stuffed lion.

Thursday, Nov. 19
Volunteer and Resource Fair: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. The fair will bring together area volunteer/non-profit organizations and to show students and the community what volunteer opportunities and resources are available to meet the needs of the community.
“A Brief History of the End of the World”: 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Corley Auditorium. Nellie Bennett will discuss life in a traditional Galician village and how her experiences there led her to research those who fought at the Galician mountain ranges during the Spanish Civil War to protect their historic identity.
Infusing Your Business with Personality & Purpose: 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Cornell Auditorium. Instruction on living your brand through your marketing, your store merchandising and display, your social media and online presence, as well as through giving back to your community.
“We Say Tomato, They Say Tomatito”: 1 to 2:15 p.m., Cornell Auditorium. Nellie Bennett will explore cultural differences and local traditions in Spanish regions and villages, and how they come together to form the wider national identity.
“Southpaw”: 2:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theater. A boxer fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him. Rated R for some violence and language.
