Granby teen killed in fiery crash

A Granby teen was killed in a one-vehicle accident 10 p.m. Sunday on Mulberry Road, four miles south of Granby.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Mikah J. Graffis, 17, Granby, lost control of a 2000 Dodge Stratus on a gravel roadway, slid off the roadway and struck a tree. The car caught on fire. The report notes that Graffis, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:08 p.m., by Newton County Deputy Coroner Brian Artherton, was listed as the driver pending further investigation.

A passenger, Ethan T. Hailey, 15, Stark City, was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the 25th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

  1. Check the updated state highway patrol. Mikah was NOT the driver. 15 yo Ethan Hailey was the driver
