Smoking cause of fire at 1726 Moffet

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1726 S Moffet at 2:20 PM, Saturday, 26 March, 2016. 

Fire crews arrived on the scene at 2:26 PM to find a one story wood framed two family dwelling with the porch fully involved and collapsed, as well as fire extending into the structure through the front doors and up the metal roof. Fire in the front rooms of both duplexes was controlled via a direct attack on the rooms, ceiling and attic.

Crews remained on scene until 4:25 PM. The house is owned by Denny Oakes, 6069 gold Finch Rd.
No injuries were reported to either fire personnel or bystanders. 6 Joplin Fire units and 17 Joplin Fire personnel responded, as well as JPD and METS.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental, misuse of smoking materials.
