Joplin Parks and Recreation director resigns

City Manager Sam Anselm announces that Scott Garrie has resigned as Director of Joplin Parks and Recreation. Garrie joined the City in January 2014 as Assistant Director for the department, and was named Director in August of 2015 when former director Chris Cotten moved to Normal, Illinois for a parks position.

“Scott has been a great asset to our team at the City,” said Anselm. “He brought much energy and strong leadership in the reorganization of the Parks department, as well as improving the condition of our golf course operation. Scott has also been influential in the development of our newest addition to the parks system, Mercy Park.”

Garrie has accepted a similar positon in the parks department of Gardner, Kansas. His last day will be July 29, 2016.

“During his tenure in Joplin, he has increased our parks programs, and created awareness of the many assets within our parks system. We appreciate his work, and wish him well in this next stage of his career,” said Anselm.

Assistant Director Paul Bloomberg has been named Interim Parks Director. Bloomberg has been with the City Parks and Recreation department for 17 years
