Joplin Fire Department receives $2,500 grant from Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market

(From the Joplin Fire Department)

The Joplin Fire Department recently received a $2,500 community grant from Joplin’s newest Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at 2426 S Maiden Lane.

These funds will be used to build a roof ventilation training prop at the recently constructed training grounds in the northern part of Joplin. New recruits and seasoned fire fighters will utilize this training prop focusing on safe and proper techniques of venting a roof. It also allows fire personnel the ability to gain confidence before moving to elevated heights such as the training tower or actual house.

“We are truly thankful to have a partner like Walmart by our side,” said Fire Chief Jim Furgerson. “This is the second grant in the past few years that this Walmart has helped the fire department. Their funding helps us to purchase much needed training props such as this one.” The first grant was utilized to purchase life jackets.

For more information about this grant or the training prop. Contact Training Chief Mark Cannon at 417-624-0820 ext. 306 or Tom Taffner, Manager Walmart Neighborhood Market at 417-208-0561.
