Webb City senior Elise Gaston named National Merit semifinalist

Webb City School District-Webb City High School Senior Elise Gaston named Semifinalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program


Today officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 62nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Among them is Webb City senior Elise Gaston, daughter of Glenn and Shari Gaston. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition.


"It is an honor for Elise to be recognized for her academic achievement. She is an outstanding student who we are proud of for earning the award she so deserves," says Webb City High School principal Tim Davied. "Being named as a National Merit Semifinalists is one of the highest honors students achieve."

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 420 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
