On Sunday, October 2nd 2016 at 11:15 am, the Joplin Police Department responded to Interstate 44 eastbound at the 9.8 mile marker for a vehicle crash. An eastbound Ford F-150 left the roadway into the center median. It traveled between the road and the center cable where it came to rest below I-44 on railroad tracks, between the east and westbound bridges. No trains were on the tracks at the time of the crash.
The driver of the truck, Rodney N. Barker (63) of Skidmore Texas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation continues and is being conducted by the Joplin Police Department Crash Team. The Joplin Fire Department, METS Ambulance and MoDOT responded to the scene.
No other details are being released at this time.
