The Southern Jazz Combos at Missouri Southern State University have scheduled performances for Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18.
The combos will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. The concert will feature four student groups offering a variety of selections including “Take the A Train,” “In a Sentimental Mood,” “Bye Bye Blackbird” and others.
Vocalist Bailey Park will join the musicians for jazz standards such as “Black Coffee,” “You’re Looking at Me” and “Just Friends.”
The performance is free and open to the public.
The jazz combos will also perform starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Gusano’s Pizza, 3929 E. Seventh St.
“It’s an opportunity for people in the community to listen to our jazz combos in a more relaxed atmosphere,” said Dr. Phillip C. Wise, director of jazz studies at Missouri Southern.
The Gusano’s performance is free; however, people are encouraged to make reservations in advance by calling the restaurant at 417-623-9090 and requesting seating near the musicians.
Other events on campus will include presentations by author Charles Finch, the conclusion of the British Film Festival and screenings of “Jason Bourne.”

“Bend it Like Beckham”: 7 p.m., Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The screening concludes the fall semester’s British Film Festival.
Wednesday, Nov. 16
“An American in England”: 10 a.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Presentation by Charles Finch, author of “The Last Enchantments.” He will sign copies of his book from 11 to 11:50 a.m. and 1 to 1:50 p.m.
Starting a Small Business – The First Steps: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. Cost is $29 per business. Details: 417-625-3128.
Thursday, Nov. 17
“Oxford: City of Dreaming Spires”: 9:30 a.m., Corley Auditorium. Charles Finch will discuss the city where he lived for three years and its literary traditions.
“Everywhere You Can – On Creative Writing About Travel”: 1 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Finch will discuss how to turn travel experiences into great travel writing. He will also sign copies of his book from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. and 11 to 11:50 a.m.
“Jason Bourne”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. Free and open to the campus community.
Friday, Nov. 18
“Jason Bourne”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre.
Saturday, Nov. 18
