(From the Joplin Police Department)
We would like to recognize our October Officer of the Month:
On October 4, 2016 Officer Jacob Piercy observed a male riding his bicycle near the intersection of 17th St. and Moffet Ave. Officer Piercy knew that a sealed Federal arrest warrant had recently been issued for the male in reference to firearm and narcotics violations. Piercy attempted to stop him but he fled from Piercy on his bicycle. The male was eventually tracked down to a nearby garage. The homeowners gave consent for officers to search the attic for the male. The male was located in the attic and eventually came out of the attic voluntarily and was taken into custody without incident.
On October 10, 2016 Officer Piercy observed a green passenger car traveling north on Range Line Rd. near the intersection of 36th Street that did not have its headlights on. Piercy stopped the vehicle for the traffic violation at the Best Western Inn at 3508 S. Range Line Rd. There was a male and a female in the vehicle. During the stop, Officer Piercy requested that a K9 unit assist him with his vehicle stop. K9 Officer Brown arrived on scene and conducted an open air sniff around the vehicle with his dog, Pax. Pax alerted to the presence of narcotics inside of the vehicle. A probable cause search was completed on the vehicle. Over 11 grams of Methamphetamine and a silver Titan .25 caliber handgun was recovered from the vehicle. The male had several felony convictions and was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. The female was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Through Officer Piercy’s proactive policing and hard work, he was able to make multiple felony arrests in the month of October 2016 for firearm and narcotic related offenses.
Thank you Officer Jacob Piercy for the outstanding job you perform. You are truly an asset to the Joplin Police Department.
