Christmas Tree Disposal/Recycling Offered at 3 Locations
The City of Joplin will have three collection points for discarded, natural (live) Christmas trees starting December 26 and running through January 31. Bring your tree, completely stripped of all decorations, and place it near the “Christmas Tree” drop-off sign posted at one of the following locations:
- Humphreys Park, 2203 East Utica Street (in Royal Heights area);
- McIndoe Park, 900 Glendale Road, on southwest corner of parking lot; and
- Public Works Center, 1301 West Second Street.
Recycling Center Holiday Schedule
The City of Joplin Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste Facility WILL BE CLOSED on Saturday, December 24 and December 31. The Center accepts many discarded holiday items including, gift wrapping paper (no ribbons please) boxes, bottles, cans, greeting cards, cooking oil, and clean packing materials such as peanuts and bubble wrap.
The Center is located at 1310 West A Street and is normally open on Tuesday and Thursday from Noon to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For additional information, call the Recycling Coordinator at (417) 624-0820 extension 501 or visit www.joplinmo.org.
Residential Trash and Curbside Recycling Schedule Does NOT Change for Holidays
The City of Joplin residential trash and curbside recycling pickup schedule for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day WILL NOT CHANGE because both holidays are on a Sunday this year.
Snow, ice and extreme cold can also delay residential trash pickup. Call Republic Services at (800) 431-1507 when there is a question as to whether Joplin residential trash service will be delayed.
Bulky Items Drop Off Holiday Schedule
The Republic Services Transfer Station in Galena, Kansas (that accepts bulky items from Joplin residential trash customers) WILL BE CLOSED on Saturday, December 24 and December 31.
During general operations, the transfer stations hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a lunch break between 11:30 a.m. to Noon, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to Noon.
