Jasper County K-9 officer Marmalade retires

(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

After over 4 years of dedicated service to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit, K9 Marmalade is hanging up her leash.

K9 Marmalade, also known as Marms to her friends, a feisty 7 year old female Bloodhound, has been a huge asset to the Sheriff's Office.

Marms came to the Sheriff's Office as a private donation from a family who recognized she needed the opportunity to show her potential, and perform a job for law enforcement. The family made a tough decision to give Marms up to law enforcement with no certainty of how safe she may be tracking down criminals, but wanted the best for her regardless.

K9 Marmalade was not just tasked with any job; she was trained to find lost people and children, as well as sniffing out bad guys who didn't want to be found! A task that is sometimes easier said than done.

Marms is loved by a large groups of the community who have been fortunate to experience her softer side, while at public events. Marms is a loving girl and enjoys her time as the center of attention and soaks up every chance to interact with children. Deputy Black and Marms are no strangers to our local schools. They have made numerous visits to the children over the years. Sometimes the team would stop in to say hello, or to share messages regarding safety to the students.

K9 Marms will enjoy her retirement with Deputy Black and his family. She will spend the rest of her days chasing rabbits instead of bad guys, and tracking lost crumbs of food rather than tracking lost children.
