Shoal Creek swimmer finds suspected explosive device

(From the Joplin Police Department)

A citizen swimming in Shoal Creek found what appeared to be an old military device in the water Friday. He moved it to the bank and called the police. After a picture of it was sent to Ft Leonard Wood, they believed it to likely be a live device and responded.

Military officials arrived and deemed the device to be a "dummy round" with no explosive capabilities. In these situations, we will always use an abundance of caution to insure everyone's safety.
