Joplin Police, Highway Patrol chase of suspect leads to arrest on roof of Sleep Inn Hotel

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

Yesterday at 9:47 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol contacted the Joplin Police Department. They were tracking a stolen vehicle using On-Star through the city of Joplin, and requested our assistance.

As officers tried to locate the vehicle leaving south Range Line and driving westbound on I-44, a state trooper located the vehicle approaching the Downstream Exit.

The vehicle exited and re-entered the Interstate traveling eastbound. A pursuit was initiated, with the vehicle running. Our officers got behind the pursuit and saw the vehicle go off road by Petro, with MSHP right behind it.

Our officers attempted to set up spikes and a perimeter to keep the suspect from getting back on to the road. He instead bailed on foot and got out of sight for a moment.

While assisting, Joplin Police Officers spotted the suspect on the roof of the Sleep Inn Hotel. They were able to get him into custody for charges for the MSHP and for trespassing on the hotel roof.
