Sarcoxie officer captures suspect after vehicle pursuit, crash, foot pursuit and taser deployment

(From the Sarcoxie Police Department)

On Thursday, 03/08/2018 at 2258 hours, while watching traffic, Officer Hackworth observed a black Dodge Journey traveling over the posted speed limit and attempted to initiate a traffic stop with his emergency lights and sirens.

The vehicle fled at that time leading into a pursuit. The Officer followed the vehicle throughout Sarcoxie for approximately 15 minutes before the vehicle crashed out at 7th and Joplin Street.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and the passenger was apprehended by a Jasper County Deputy who had joined the pursuit.

Officer Hackworth then exited his vehicle in pursuit of the fleeing driver. Officer Hackworth was able to apprehend the driver by taser deployment with assistance of Jasper County deputies.

At that time EMS was called to medically clear the driver and passenger of the fleeing vehicle. There were no injuries at this time and both individuals were arrested and transported to Jasper County Jail and will await the charges.

Both individuals in the vehicle had active warrants. Both patrol vehicle and the fleeing vehicle were damaged in the pursuit.

This is all we can release at this time.
