In the next program of Joplin Insider, viewers will learn more about recycling and the upcoming free community shred event scheduled in November. MaryAnne Phillips, Joplin Recycling Coordinator, visits with Public Information Officer Lynn Onstot about the changes in recycling and the resources available to the public.
The Joplin Recycling Center has experienced a 150% growth since opening in January 2000. Initially, the Center accepted only basic recyclables, however as the Center matured, other commodities were added to the list of acceptable items. These include various things, such as packing materials, batteries, metal scrap, household hazardous waste, plastic shopping bags, electronics and cooking oil. The Center also holds special collection events for the community.
Citizens having a large quantity of items to shred will want to visit the Community Shred Day at the Joplin Recycling Center, 1310 West A Street, on Saturday, November 17. Large amounts of paper can be shredded quickly at no cost to area residents between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This event is free and open to all residents. The event is sponsored by the Joplin Recycling Department, the Joplin Police Department, Region M Solid Waste Management District, and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
This episode of Joplin Insider, the City’s 30-minute interview television show, will air several times throughout October including:
Tue. Oct. 2 – 7 p.m.
Wed. Oct. 3 – 6 p.m.
Mon. Oct. 8 – 6 p.m.
Tue. Oct. 9 – 7 p.m.
Wed. Oct. 10 – 6 p.m.
Thur. Oct. 11 – 9 p.m.
It will continue to air throughout the month.
