KGCS-TV and the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University are working on a special documentary highlighting the local television show, “Teen Hop” – which aired on KODE-TV from the mid-1950s until the early 1970s.
The weekly Saturday afternoon program featured area high school students dancing in the KODE studio to the top tunes of the day.
“We have a lot of great oral history from people who participated in ‘Teen Hop,’ said Judy Stiles, KGCS General Manager. “But unfortunately, there are not a lot of visuals to help share the story of the program.”
Thus, the department is asking for help.
People with pictures - that can be scanned and used - should contact Stiles at (417) 625-9777. They can also email her at: stiles-j@mssu.edu.
A special presentation honoring “Teen Hop” as an iconic Joplin television program is being planned for later this spring, as part of the Regional Media Hall of Fame ceremony.
