Thomas Jefferson students earn awards at Kansas City Chinese Speech Contest

Congratulations to the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Chinese language students who earned top awards in the regional 2019 Kansas City Chinese Speech Contest sponsored by the University of Kansas on Saturday.

 The students qualified earlier this month by writing, memorizing, and delivering their speeches in Chinese, and on Saturday, they delivered the speeches in person in front of an audience at the regional contest. 





The contest in Kansas City included students from public and private schools all around the Four-States region. Of the 35 TJ students who entered the contest, 26 were selected as finalists to compete Saturday. Of the finalists, 7 placed in the Top-3 in their divisions:

12th Grade: 1st place: Aaron Wells

11th Grade: 3rd place: Preston Johnson

10th Grade: 1st place: Olivia Staso

9th Grade:; 3rd place: Jiao Jiao Nelson

6th Grade: 1st place: Emily Zhang

4th Grade: 2nd place: Catherine Martin

1st Grade: 3rd place: James Martin
