Three arrested on drug charges after leading Jasper Police, Barton County deputies on high-speed chase

(From the Jasper Police Department)

On Wednesday, February 13th, 2019 at 1254 hours, a Jasper PD officer attempted to stop a green 2004 Honda Accord with a Kansas license, in the parking lot of Pete’s Convenience Store located at 309 N. 6th St., Jasper, Missouri.

The driver pulled up next to a gas pump. As the officer activated the emergency lights to initiate the stop, the driver looked into his rearview mirror, then accelerated and took off through the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

The driver failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens. The following route was taken during the pursuit:

•East on Metcer St. to I-49 Northbound on ramp.

•North on I-49. At the intersection of I-49 and Highway 160 in Lamar, Barton County Sheriff’s Office was successful in deploying spike strips on the vehicle. The vehicle’s tires deflated, the driver continued to fail to yield. The vehicle became disabled about two miles north of Highway 160 on I-49.

The driver, Jeffrey Higgins of Kansas City, Mo, the front passenger, Shelby G. Palmer of Nixa, and the back right passenger, Kellsey Jordon of Goodman were all taken into custody without further incident.

During the course of the search of the vehicle, a plastic baggy with about 3-4 grams of a white powder substance believed to be methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.

•Higgins was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, driving while suspended and had felony warrants out of Jackson County, SO.

•Palmer was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. She is also facing charges in Barton County for possession of a controlled substance in a jail facility after being found with suspected meth on her person at the jail.

•Jordon was arrested for active warrants.

Special thanks to Barton County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their assistance.
We would also like to thank the person who installed the loud after market “bumble bee” muffler on the suspect vehicle... It was loud enough to where the officer was able to know when the vehicle was accelerating before actually observing the vehicle accelerating, making it easier for our officer to stay up with the vehicle.

Note: The above named subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
