To help commemorate 35 years of television programing at Missouri Southern State University, KGCS-TV alumni are invited back for a special reunion and dinner at 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 5 during homecoming weekend.
Reservations may be made by following the link: www.mssu.edu/homecoming.
In addition to marking the station’s anniversary, an Outstanding TV Alumni Award will be presented to Cliff Erwin (photo attached), a 2004 graduate.
Erwin is currently the broadcast studio manager at The University of Kansas Health System. Prior to that, he worked at television stations in Joplin, Springfield and Kansas City. He has won an Emmy award and recognition from the Missouri Broadcasters Association for his work.
“We hope that alumni, especially those that live locally, can attend the dinner,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS general manager. “There are hundreds of students who have gone through the program in 35 years, and this celebration is possible because of their work and dedication over that time.”
KGCS started as a Joplin cable-only service in 1984, and has progressed to a broadcast station reaching more than 160,000 households in the region.
Programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
