To observe the Oceania Semester, Southern Theatre will present “Hanging Man” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, through Saturday, Oct. 5, in Bud Walton Theatre at Missouri Southern State University.
Written by Andrew Upton, the play opens the morning after the death of a family matriarch. Her death leaves the estate of her long dead husband, a (fictional) famous and contentious Australian artist, in the hands of his three sons.
At the core of their father’s legacy is a series of paintings of which the eponymous Hanging Man is the centerpiece. Hidden from sight by the family, it now becomes publicly available. The fallout from this is intense and deeply nuanced.
Directed by Dr. Jim Lile, the cast includes:

The production of “Hanging Man” will be entered as an associate production in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students, and will be available at the door. Due to adult language and situations, the production is for mature audiences only. The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. for each performance.
