Dog taken to vet following house fire at 211 South Galena Avenue

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 2:00 PM, the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a house on fire at 211 S Galena Ave.

The first crew arrived at 2:02 PM to find a single-story house with smoke showing and flames coming from the windows. Crews entered the structure and extinguished the fire. They remained on scene until 4:09 PM.

The Joplin Fire Department responded with 6 units and 18 personnel. The fire department was assisted by METS Ambulance Service and the Joplin Police Department. 

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting personnel. No one was home at the time of the fire; however, a dog was found still breathing on the kitchen floor. It was transported by animal control to a local vet for treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
