MSSU Choral Society schedules annual winter concert

The MSSU Choral Society will perform its annual Winter Concert on Sunday, December 8, 3:00 p.m. at First Community Church, 2007 E 15th St. The Society had performed at this venue for many of its early years and is pleased to return.

Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Susan Smith, Director of Vocal Studies at MSSU, and accompanist Clint Newby lead the community-based Choral Society and will present its Winter program with music that will appeal to people of all ages.

The concert opens with Mark Hayes “Sing Joy” an arrangement of three familiar carols, and conducted by Spencer Dawson, a senior vocal music education student at MSSU.

It is followed by the featured major cantata by Pepper Choplin “Night of the Fathers Love” including several new selections and familiar ones. Choral Society members Linda Switzer, Janet Kice, Leecia Bloss narrate, and MSSU students Miranda Duncan and Spencer Dawson perform solos.

The concert continues with a medley of familiar Christmas songs, Let It Snow!, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle-Bell Rock, Silver Bells, and Frosty the Snow Man, arranged by Roger Emerson.

The Chorus presents its “signature song” Marvin Hamlisch’s “One Song.” And closes the concert with Handel’s masterful “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah

The event is free, and donations will be gratefully accepted.
