Joplin Public Library to hold sensory friendly social for teens Saturday

(From the Joplin Public Library)

The Joplin Public Library’s Teen Department will hold “Sensory Friendly Awesomeness”, a sensory friendly social for teens ages 13-19, their caregivers, and teen siblings from 1 p.m. to 3:30 pm on Saturday, November 23, in the Library’s Community Room.

This is a come-and-go event in an accepting environment. It is designed to allow attendees to feel free to be themselves and take part in activities created with their interests in mind.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet other teens as well as engage in a make-and-take sensory craft. Community partner Spiva Center for the Arts will offer an art activity. A Relaxation Station with dim lighting, soft throws, and space to unwind will also be available. Participants are welcome to bring their handheld gaming devices to enjoy.

There is no charge to participate, although registration is required. To register or to inquire about the program, contact the Teen Department at 417-623-7953, ext. 1027 (voicemail welcome) or email teen@joplinpubliclibrary.org For additional information, visit Joplin Public Library’s website at www.joplinpubliclibrary.org.
