Gun-toting citizen helps Sarcoxie Police capture fleeing suspect

(From the Sarcoxie Police Department)

A Sarcoxie officer observed a blue Ford Taurus parked outside of a known residence at the corner of 5th and Church. He ran the plate which came back to a Chevy passenger vehicle.

When the vehicle left, the officer initiated a stop on the vehicle. The vehicle proceeded to flee from the officer.

The officer continued the pursuit into Newton County where the vehicle crashed into a barn at the intersection of Walleye Rd and Azalea Dr.

The driver, Joseph Grant of Sarcoxie, MO, fled on foot into the tall grass and was lost sight of. The front passenger, Gideon Grant, and the back passenger, Jennifer Grant of Cassville, MO were taken into custody without incident.

Missouri State Highway Patrol initiated a track with their K9 but due to rain, the search was called off (rain will eliminate the track for the K9).

Jennifer Grant was released at the scene to EMS to get her injuries evaluated.

Gideon Grant was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center on charges of Resiting by Fleeing and Hindering Prosecution (wouldn't give up the driver, his brother).

Later that night, Sarcoxie officers were informed that a citizen may have had our driver at gunpoint around Walleye and Beech, awaiting law enforcement arrival.

Officers arrived on the scene and Joseph Grant was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center on charges of Property Damage 1st, Resisting by Fleeing, and C&I Driving resulting in a crash. Charges have been turned over to the Newton County PA for review.
