Texas woman killed in canoeing accident on Elk River


A San Antonio, Texas woman was killed in a canoeing accident 3 p.m. Tuesday on Elk River, three miles north of Noel.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a Mackinaw 156 canoe struck a tree in the river and capsized leaving its occupant, Maria Lilibeth A. Reyes, 46, San Antonio, trapped underwater between the vessel and the tree.








Reyes was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m. by Dr. Goins at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

The boating fatality was the fifth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
