MSSU Choral Society's annual patriotic concert scheduled

(From the MSSU Choral Society)

The MSSU Choral Society's annual patriotic concert will take place Sunday, July 25, 3:00 p.m., First Community Church, 2007 East 15th St in Joplin, Mo.

This will be their first concert in over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the members are excited to sing again. It also will be the first concert for Melissa Belk, their new artistic director and conductor. She had taken the reins in the spring of 2020, but the rehearsals and concerts were canceled shortly thereafter.

The well-known and ever-popular 35-voice area-wide mixed choir will present a variety of patriotic music including: “Our America” a medley of familiar songs; “Homeward Bound” a poignant ballad by Marta Keen; Irving Berlin’s “Alexander’s Ragtime Band”; America the Beautiful”; and the chorus’s signature song, “One Song” by Marvin Hamlisch.

Clint Newby will present a patriotic piano solo in addition to his duties as the Society’s accompanist.

The concert is open to the public at no charge, and should last under an hour.
