(From the Joplin Police Department)On November 21st, 2021 Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to 1101 S. Sergeant Avenue along with Joplin Fire Department personnel for a report of a structure fire.
The residence, which was not occupied, was fully engulfed in flames upon arriving on scene.
A witness described a suspect in the area who made suspicious statements regarding the fire.
That suspect was located nearby and was arrested on active warrants unrelated to the fire.
He is identified as Kerry W. Long, age 33 of Joplin, Missouri.
Following Long’s arrest, a JPD Detective was able to develop evidence that Long entered the residence at 1101 S. Sergeant Avenue, stole property and lit a fire while inside. Charges were submitted to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for Burglary in the 2nd Degree and Arson in the 2nd Degree
