(From Southern News Service)The Missouri Southern State University campus will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 24, through Sunday, Nov. 28, for Thanksgiving break.
The last full week of classes for the Fall 2021 semester will begin on Monday, Nov. 29.
A number of holiday activities are planned for the week, from the traditional Southern Lights event and Seasonal Choral Flourish concert, to an Ugly Sweater Contest. Other activities include a performance by the Southern Jazz Orchestra, a freshman Trivia Night event and a play created by students in the Theatre Department.
Monday, Nov. 29
Relaxation kits: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. The ACTS and FYE Department will offer relaxation kits for students as finals week approaches.
Tuesday, Nov. 30
Trivia Night: 5 to 7:30 p.m., North End Zone Facility. Freshmen are invited to enjoy dinner and participate in a trivia contest sponsored by ACTS and FYE.
Jazz Orchestra concert: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Admission to the Southern Jazz Orchestra concert is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, Dec. 1
Southern Lights: 5:30 to 7 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. The annual event – open to students, faculty, staff and their guests – will include a tree-lighting by Dr. Dean Van Galen, crafts, snacks and carriage rides.
Thursday, Dec. 2
Stuff a Lion: 10:30 a.m., Lions Den, Billingsly Student Center. Presented by the Campus Activities Board, students can create their own stuffed lion and outfit it in a safari costume.
“Now What/What Now”: 7:30 p.m., Black Box Theatre. The student-devised show is a humorous look at the inner mindset during the time of quarantine. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, military and students, and free for children 12 and under.
Friday, Dec. 3
Last Day of Classes
Ugly Sweater Contest: 10 a.m., first-floor lobby of Hearnes Hall. Open to the campus community, prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
Finals Madness: 8 p.m. The Campus Activities Board invites students to celebrate the end of the semester, starting at Soar in Webb City, followed by breakfast and bingo starting at 10 p.m. in Mayes Dining Hall.
Saturday, Dec. 4
Seasonal Choral Flourish: 1 and 7:30 p.m., St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl Ave. The annual concert will feature the Missouri Southern Chamber Singers and Concert Chorale. Admission is free and open to the public; doors will open an hour before each performance.
