MSSU Choral Society schedules annual holiday concert

(From the MSSU Choral Society)

The MSSU Choral Society's annual holiday concert will take place Sunday, December 12, 3:00 p.m., First Community Church, 2007 East 15th St, in Joplin, Mo.

This will be their first concert in over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the members are excited to sing again. It also will be the first concert for Melissa Belk, the Society’s new artistic director and conductor. She had taken the reins in the spring of 2020, but the rehearsals and concerts were canceled shortly thereafter, and this summer’s concert was also canceled at the last minute due to COVID-19. (Third time is charm?)

The well-known and ever-popular area-wide mixed choir will present a variety of holiday music including; White Christmas – a medley of Irving Berlin songs, “Glow” by Eric Whitacre, “Nutcracker Jingles” an unusual arrangement of Christmas songs, The First Noel/Pachibel’s Canon, arranged by Michael Clawson, and African Alleluia, by Benjamin Harlan. The Grinch is even expected to make an appearance. The concert will be capped by the chorus’s signature song, “One Song” by Marvin Hamlisch.

Clint Newby continues to accompany the Choral Society. .

The concert is open to the public at no charge.
