Burny, Redings Mill Fire Protection District's educational vehicle, makes his last appearance

(From the Redings Mill Fire Protection District)

If you were a child in Southwest Missouri from 2000 to 2020 you likely have met Burny. Burny joined the Redings Mill Fire Protection District in 1999.

A rambunctious group of firefighters transformed him from a retired Army step-van into a public education anchor. There was even a contest on local radio to help name what would become “Burny”.

His purpose was simple, provide a tool to help educate little ones about the dangers of playing with fire.

After countless trips to area elementary schools, safety fairs and even a trip across the state for a special recognition, it is time for Burny to say goodbye. Simply put, Burny is tired and just isn’t as popular anymore. We would like to say thank you to our sponsors that helped make Burny a reality back in 1999.

What is next for Burny?

He will be returning to the Missouri Department of Conservation who provided the vehicle to our agency through the Federal Excess Firefighter Property (FFP) Program.
