Lamar Police Department reviews emergency procedures with R-1 teachers

 (From the Lamar Police Department)

It's almost back to school time and we are getting prepared also.

This morning, officers from the Lamar Police Department, along with deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and local MSHP troopers were able to walk through each of Lamar’s schools.

During this, they were able to review emergency procedures for tornados, fires, and intruders. The walk through was done as teachers were preparing their classrooms for back to school. This allowed the teachers and first responders to communicate directly about their plans and expectations during any potential emergency.

As school does start back traffic will increase around the schools, please remember a few safety points.

• Slow down, speed limit in the school zone is 20mph from 7:15am to 3:30pm
• On Broadway, the speed limit is 20mph from 7:15am to 8:15am and 2:30pm to 3:30pm
• Please yield to children in the cross walk
• Allow for a few more minutes on Gulf St. during the start and end of the school day.
• If your child walks to school, know the route they walk each day.
• Kids, please do not walk between cars in the drop-off zones.
It's an exciting time for our kids as they head back to school. Please take a few extra moments to look out for their safety. We are all working to keep our kids safe.
