(From Southern News Service)

Bethany Kendrick has been announced as the new Director of Communications & External Relations at Missouri Southern State University.

Kendrick, who begins her duties on August 29, will serve as the university’s public information officer. She will provide leadership for internal and external communication efforts and serve as a liaison between the Office of the President and key constituents on campus and in the community.

She comes to Missouri Southern with a proven track record in public and media relations in higher education.

“Bethany is an experienced professional who will effectively communicate the impact that Missouri Southern has on our students and community and will be a thoughtful member of the university’s leadership team,” said Dr. Dean Van Galen, president of MSSU. “I am delighted to welcome Bethany to MSSU.”

A 2004 graduate of Labette Community College (LCC) with an associate’s degree in arts journalism/mass communication, Kendrick earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wichita’s Friends University in 2006.

She served as a public relations assistant at LCC starting in 2002. In 2008, she was named Director of Public Relations. In that role, she has acted as spokesperson for the college while leading its public relations and marketing efforts.

Kendrick has participated in the Southeast Kansas Regional Leadership Academy as well as Leadership Parsons, presented by the Parsons Chamber of Commerce, and previously served on the regional United Way board.

“The opportunity to serve the central mission of a university with such a strong and cohesive leadership team is incredible,” Kendrick said. “The campus and student populations are growing, which in turn, will be a catalyst for growth for the entire community and surrounding areas. I am proud to be a member of such a student-centric university.”
