Hit-and-run victim dies at Joplin hospital, Miami Police arrest driver for DUI

At approximately 8:23 pm on 4-3-23 Miami Officers were called to a scene in the 900 block of B ST NE. The call was in reference to a traffic collision with a pedestrian. The suspect vehicle, described as a ¾ ton black Ford truck, was reportedly fleeing the scene. 

The vehicle was located about half a block north of the accident scene parked at the truck owner’s residence. 

An investigation into the collision revealed the driver Clay McCormick was starting to drive southbound on B ST NE with victim Chase Langston on the hood of the vehicle. McCormick then accelerated and slammed on the brakes throwing Langston from the hood of the vehicle. 

McCormick exited the vehicle and a passenger from the vehicle backed the truck down the street. 

Upon investigation McCormick was arrested for DUI. Langston was transported to the Integris hospital and flown to Joplin in critical condition. 

On 4-6-23 it was learned Langston died from injuries received during the incident. The details of the investigation are still being investigated. Further charges in the case are anticipated.
