Diamond man awaiting trial on burglary charges, arrested for two Joplin burglaries

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On April 5th, 2023, the Joplin Police Department received reports of burglaries at Boyd Metals, 1027 S. Byers Avenue, and Joplin Plumbing, 415 W. Junge Boulevard, in Joplin. These incidents were found to have occurred in close proximity to each other and around the same time frame.

During the burglary at Body Metals, the suspect entered the business while employees were present and stole a nail gun along with a key to a piece of equipment at the property.

During the burglary at Joplin Plumbing, the suspect damaged an excavator, stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tools, stole a 2001 Toyota Tundra truck that belonged to the business, and fled the scene by driving the stolen truck through a locked fence.

After further investigation by Joplin PD Detectives, the suspect was captured on surveillance video and was determined to be the same suspect in both incidents. Detectives identified him as Clayton D. Burke, age 24 of Diamond, Missouri.

On April 7th, Detectives located Burke and were able to place him under arrest. At the Joplin City Jail, it was found that Burke was in possession of property stolen during one of the burglaries.

Clayton Burke was arrested on charges of Burglary in the 1st Degree (Boyd Metals) and Burglary in the 2nd Degree (Joplin Plumbing).

Burke, who had been previously released on his own recognizance from Burglary and Drug arrests in Joplin in March of this year, remains in custody at the Jasper County Jail on $50,000 bond.
