Joplin officers arrest 17-year-old for Vapor Maven burglary, resisting arrest

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On April 15th, 2023, at 12:06 a.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of a business alarm at Vapor Maven, 407 S. Rangeline Road Suite #2 in Joplin.

Officers arrived on scene quickly thereafter and found the backdoor to the business was unsecured and it appeared the business had been burglarized.

Officers then observed a male subject inside the business and immediately began issuing verbal commands. The suspect refused to follow those orders and fled out of the front door and refused to stop for police.

Officers chased the suspect on foot, and he was apprehended without further incident a short distance away.

During the investigation, it was found the suspect had broken the glass on display cases inside the business and filled several bags with various vaping and CBD products along with cash from the business. These items were recovered on scene.

The suspect, who was detained on charges of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and felony Resisting Arrest, was determined to be a 17-year-old juvenile male.

After consultation with the Jasper County Juvenile Detention Office, officers were instructed to release the suspect to the custody of one of his parents. The investigation of this incident continues and further information may be released as it becomes available.
