Production of Funny Girl scheduled at Joplin Little Theatre

(From Joplin Little Theatre)

Funny Girl, with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill, will be the next production at Joplin Little Theatre set for Wednesday, May 17 through Saturday, May 20, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 21, 2:30 p.m. The theatre is located at 3009 W. First Street in Joplin.

The book, Funny Girl, is by Isobel Lennart, taken from an original story. In the Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films and on the radio, Fanny Brice was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time. With humor, talent and chutzpah, young Funny, an awkward Jewish girl who “isn’t pretty,” defies the odds and becomes one of the greatest stars of her generation.

Fanny’s rise to superstardom and her turbulent romance with gambler Nick Arnstein are explored through Bob Merrill and Jule Styne’s unforgettable score, which includes “People”, “Don’t Rain On My Parade”, “I’m the Greatest Star”, “The Music That Makes Me Dance” and “You Are Woman, I am Man."

Ticket prices are $18 for adult and $15 for senior citizens/students. Individual tickets are on sale by calling the Joplin Little Theatre box office during regular office hours at 417-623-3638 or online at www.joplinlittletheatre.org. For more information, call the theatre office at 417- 623-3638, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m

  1. I can hardly wait to see this production. Funny Girl is one of my all-time favorite movies, so to get to see it performed live right here in Joplin will be a great treat. Thanks so much!
