Four people, including Joplin man, one-year-old Aurora child, injured in four-car pileup on I-44

Four people were injured in a four-vehicle pile-up 5:22 p.m. on I-44, two miles east of Sarcoxie.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Jeep Commander driven by Keenan P. Page, 31, Joplin, failed to observe stopped traffic and struck a 2004 Honda Pilot driven by Yessenio E. Bonilla, 36, Aurora, in the rear, then drove off the left side of the roadway before overturning.

The initial impact caused the Bonilla vehicle to hit a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Cecilio Canlia, 31, Monett, which struck a 1994 Dodge Ram 205 van driven by Ruth Ann C. VanVolkenburg, 45, Joplin.


Page and Canlia were treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Bonilla and a passenger in her vehicle, David Rodriguez-Bonilla, 1, Aurora, were treated for minor injuries at Mercy.
