Oklahoma man charged with murder after passenger killed in DWI accident

Felony second degree murder and felony driving while intoxicated charges were filed against an Oklahoma man after a passenger in his car died in a one-car accident near Pineville at 5:25 p.m. Saturday.

Daxton S. Harrison, 21, Tuttle, Okla., was also charged with misdemeanor driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving, no seatbelt, and a misdemeanor McDonald County warrant.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred when a westbound 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Harrison, 21, dropped off the edge of the roadway, overcorrected and struck an embankment.

A passenger in the Harrison car, Heather M. Garrett, 20, Rogers, was pronounced dead at the scene by McDonald County Deputy Coroner Tracy Dowd.

Harrison was taken to Freeman West, Joplin, for treatment of minor injuries.

  1. I'm proud of the DA, or whomever makes these decisions, for filing these charges! People need a wake-up call and this could've totally been avoided.
    So sad, all the way around.

  2. That was my cousin who died in this wreck. He was her boyfriend and seemed like a smart young man. I am in shock of how he would do this to her and himself. We all very upset. And have no more respect for him.
