Preliminary hearing set for Oklahoma man charged with murder, DWI

A 1 p.m. June 4 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in McDonald County Circuit Court for an Oklahoma man charged with second degree murder and felony driving while intoxicated after a passenger in his car died in a one-car accident near Pineville April 12.

Daxton S. Harrison, 21, Tuttle, Okla., was also charged with misdemeanor driving while suspended, careless and imprudent driving, no seatbelt, and a misdemeanor McDonald County warrant.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred when a westbound 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Harrison, 21, dropped off the edge of the roadway, overcorrected and struck an embankment.

A passenger in the Harrison car, Heather M. Garrett, 20, Rogers, was pronounced dead at the scene by McDonald County Deputy Coroner Tracy Dowd.
