A lecture on a recent trip to Turkey, the annual campus picnic and a performance by an “America’s Got Talent” semi-finalist are among the events to be held in the coming week at Missouri Southern State University.
· Christine Bentley, chair of the Art Department, and Eric Rasheed, government property administrator for the State Department-Middle East, will offer a discussion and photo slide presentation about their recent trip to Istanbul at noon Thursday in Room 202 of the Fine Arts Complex.
“Tango in Turkey – Investigating the Intrigue of Istanbul” will explore the culture, art and architecture they encountered during their travels. The lecture is free and open to the public. For details, call 417-625-3066.
· The 35th annual Spring Picnic will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, on the Oval.
Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, the event will have a Western theme, complete with a mechanical bull, an archery dome, shooting range and lasso competition. For more information, contact the Student Activities Office at 417-625-9669.
· Freeman Health System will present the seventh annual Walk for Autism Awareness on Saturday at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Check-in and registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the one-mile walk set for 9 a.m. Families, individuals, companies or teams are invited to walk in honor of a loved one or a family affected by autism.
Cost is $15 per adult walker, and $10 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will benefit the Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism. To register online, visit www.leffencenterforautism.com.
· Mind reader and “America’s Got Talent” semi-finalist Eric Dittelman will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Taylor Performing Arts Center.
The free event, which was rescheduled from Feb. 4 due to the weather, is sponsored by CAB. “I Saw Eric Dittelman Live at MSSU” T-shirts will be given to the first 100 Missouri Southern students who present a valid ID. Details: 417-625-9669.
