Joplin police dogs aid in arrest of Lamar woman, Purdy man

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Jan 11, 2015, at 0051 hours, Joplin Police Officers patrolling the area of 2nd St. and Joplin
Ave. attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Venture for traveling the wrong way on a one-way
street.

The vehicle intermittently eluded officers but it was located near D and Byers. Three
subjects fled on foot from the vehicle.

Susan L. Hardy, 39, of Lamar, was located
hiding under a bush at 437 N. Moffet. Hardy fought with officers and while hiding under the bush hid her hands from officers while exhibiting threatening behavioral indicators. Fearing that she might be armed, officers deployed a K-9. Hardy then submitted and complied with officers. Hardy sustained no injuries from the dog bite as it had bitten her tennis-shoe. Hardy was charged with obstruction/resisting.

Another K-9 tracked Carl R. Rice Jr., 33, of Purdy, to 506 N. Byers where he was hiding under the front porch. Rice refused to come out from under the porch. For officer safety, the K-9 was deployed. Rice sustained two bites and submitted and began to comply with officers. Rice did not need medical attention.

Rice was arrested for the following; Possession of a Controlled Substance, FelonyOperating a Motor Vehicle with a Driver’s License Revoked, Felony Resisting Arrest-by fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Careless and Imprudent Manner, Possession of Tags of Another Person, and No Proof of Financial Responsibility.

The third subject that fled from the vehicle was not identified or located.
