Joplin woman airlifted to Freeman following accident on 96

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 7:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 96, six miles north of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Honda CRV driven by Suzette H. Laurance, 50, Joplin, attempted to pass a 2009 GMC Yukon driven by Barbara M. Hunter, 32, Carl Junction, on the shoulder. The Laurance vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned several times ejecting the driver and a passenger, neither of whom was wearing a safety belt.

Laurance was airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with serious injuries. The passenger, Douglas E. Berry, 54, Carl Junction, was also treated for serious injuries at Freeman West.
