Tasered suspect, missing cattle among Barton County Sheriff's cases

On 01-06-2015 The Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary at a residence in the County. Deputy Luce responded to the 333 SE 10th road and spoke to the property owner. It appeared as if the door had been kicked in and it was not clear if anybody was still in the home or not. Deputy Luce searched the home and area around the home for anybody and nobody was found in or around the scene of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.

On 01-06-2015 a Deputy observed Aaron L. Leivan, age 38, of Lamar at a home in Iantha. The deputy knew Leivan to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. Deputy Joey Bronson and Deputy Bradley Keithly respond to the area and approached the house from two different directions. When they arrived at the residence they observed Leivan flee from the residence on foot. A foot chase started and deputy Keithly chased Leivan to the Baptist Church in Iantha. Where he was able to get Leivan to the ground. Deputy Keithly was in the process of trying to get Leivan into handcuffs, however Leivan continued to resist and try to get away. Deputy Bronson arrived on scene and few short moments later and used a x26 taser to gain compliance from Leivan and he was handcuffed. Leivan was transported back to the Sheriff’s Office on a felony probation and parole warrant and reports will be sent to the prosecuting attorney for consideration of filing felony charges for resisting arrest.

On 01-05-2015 a deputy from the Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle driven by Tyler R. Wheeler, age 22. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle due to the subject not having a valid drivers license. At the conclusion of the investigation A summons was issued to Wheeler for not having a valid drivers license.

On 01-03-2015 The Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of 22 Black Angus cows being stolen from a farm approximately three miles Southeast of Lamar. Seventeen of the twenty two where calves. The victim in the case believes the animals was stolen sometime between 12-26-2014 and the 3rd of January. The investigation continues.

On 01-03-2015 The Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint that a farm on Northwest 90th road had items missing. A person who watches over the farm advised that he had noticed buildings on the property with the doors open, and vehicles on the property had doors open and it appeared as if the vehicles had been rummaged through. The investigation is ongoing. Two people of interest who reside in Joplin are needing to be questioned in the theft and trespass case.

On 12-29-2014 around 5:00pm Deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office recieved information that there was an alleged methamphetamine Lab at a trailer home located at Angel Estates. Deputies went to the home and made contact with the occupants. During a search of the home items commonly used in the creation of the illegal drug methamphetamine was discovered. Four individuals were detained and questioned at the Sheriff’s Office about the allegations. The investigation started a short time after 5:30pm and continued throughout the night and into the following morning hours. Deputies who normally ended there shift at 2:00am left sometime after 5:30am in the morning. Items seized will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for analysis. Once crime lab reports come back on items seized from the home those reports will be sent to the prosecutor for consideration in filing of formal criminal charges.
