Joplin Police Department swears in new leaders

The Joplin Police Department swore in new leaders during ceremonies held tonight in City Council chambers.

Matt Stewart is promoted to Assistant Chief of Police and he will oversee Administration, Investigations, Patrol, Special Enforcement, and Support Services.

Assistant Chief Stewart is a graduate of Missouri Southern State University with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s
Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Missouri Police Chief’s Command College and the FBI National Academy.

Bob Higginbotham is promoted to Captain and he will manage the Support Services Bureau.

Captain Higginbotham is a graduate of Missouri Southern State University with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Bob is a
graduate of Lincoln University with a Master’s Degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Missouri Police Chief’s Command College.

Dan Haskins is promoted to Sergeant and will supervise a team in the Patrol Bureau. Sgt. Haskins is a graduate of Central Christian College with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice.

Darren McIntosh is promoted to Corporal and will supervise a team in the Patrol Bureau. Cpl. McIntosh is a graduate of Missouri Southern State University with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

Shawn Dodson is promoted to Corporal and will supervise a team in the Special Enforcement Bureau. Cpl. Dodson has an Associate’s Degree in Chemistry from Labette Community College and is a graduate of Pittsburgh State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He anticipates completing his Master’s Degree in Business Administration this year through Abaline Christian
University.
