Southern Theatre to present "Crimes of the Heart"

(From Southern News Service)

Southern Theatre will present “Crimes of the Heart” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, through Saturday, Jan. 31, in Bud Walton Theatre.

The play, which won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, examines the plight of three young Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions.

“It’s a wonderful play and really popular in regional theaters,” said director Ann Lile. “If anyone has siblings, they’ll be able to identify with it. These are sisters with very different personalities – there’s the peacemaker, the rebel and the one everyone loves.

“There’s an interesting dilemma that brings all of them together.”

Lile said the production serves as a showcase for the actresses in the theater department.

“You’re going to see people you’ve not seen on the stage before,” she said. “We have some first-year students (in the cast) and some other new faces, which is exciting.”

The cast includes Erica Zeyn, Miranda Nealy, Valerie Stockton, Laramie Ellis, Sean Botts and Anthony Eden.

Admission is free for MSSU students, faculty and staff; $3 for senior citizens; and $1 for non-MSSU students. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mssu.edu/ticket-office.
