(From the City of Joplin)
The City of Joplin Recycling Department, Post Art Library and Connect2Culture are sponsoring a Trash-To-Art contest in celebration of the Joplin Recycling Center’s 15th anniversary. So gather some trash and create some art!
Entries must be made of materials that would otherwise be discarded (though paints, adhesives, embellishments and such are acceptable, so long as the majority of the piece is created with trash). Two dimensional and three dimensional entries shall not exceed three feet by three feet by three feet and may not weigh more than 15 pounds.
Categories include Adults (18 and older), Teens (grades 6-12) and Kids (grades PreK-5). First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in all three categories plus a People’s Choice prize, in each category.
Emily Frankoski, Connect2Culture Director said, “Repurposing – creating beauty from leftover, mundane, even ‘ugly’ objects – is a fascinating practice. We are hopeful that this exhibit will not only inspire artwork, but show how one can create value out of the waste we generate on a daily basis.”
Pickup an entry form at the Post Art Library, 300 South Main Street or Joplin City Hall, First Floor Reception Counter, 602 South Main Street or by clicking on the link at the end of this article. It can also be found on the Conntect2Culture website, http://connect2culture.com/trash-to-art-2015/.
Submissions must be dropped off at the Post Art Library on March 26, 27 or 28. The Artwork will be on display at the Post Art Library throughout April and winning entries will be displayed at the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center throughout May.
Call Leslie Simpson, 417-782-7678, or Mary Anne Phillips 417-624-0820 Ext. 501 for additional information.
