(From Joplin Public Library)
As part of its Summer Reading Club, the Joplin Public Library will host a visit from Pittsburg State University’s “Nature Reach” at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 9. During the show, which is appropriate for children ages four and up, Delia Lister will introduce audience members to live raptors, explain their importance, and share why many are endangered.
Nature Reach is an outreach program of Pittsburg State University's Biology Department and their mission is to help educate residents of the four state region about the natural history of this area, as well as local and global environmental issues. Their popular raptor program is just one of their many outreach programs that helps them accomplish their mission.
Program presenter Delia Lister holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Biology, both from Pittsburg State University. She has been affiliated with the Nature Reach program since 2003 and was named director in 2007. In addition to managing Nature Reach, she teaches Environmental Life Science at PSU.
The program is free of charge and has been made possible thanks to a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. Anyone attending is encouraged to join the Summer Reading Club which centers on superheroes and allows all children, no matter their residency, a free card for the duration of the program and the opportunity to earn two free books.
