The Joplin Fire Department responded to a commercial fire alarm at Freeman Hospital, 1102 W 32nd St, at 2:02 AM, Thursday, 18 August.
Crews arrived on scene at 2:07 AM to find heavy smoke in the Medical 3 elevator control room. Freeman personnel had already removed nearby patients and extinguished the fire prior to JFD’s arrival.
JFD crews assisted Freeman maintenance personnel in extricating two individuals from an elevator, then returned to work on getting the smoke cleared out. Crews remained on scene until 3:08 AM.
No injuries were reported to either fire personnel or bystanders. Five Joplin Fire units and 14 Joplin Fire personnel responded, as well as JPD and METS.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature.
