Concert lineup announced for Thomas Jefferson

Our 6th Annual Concert and Theater Series begins next Thursday at 7 p.m. with a performance by the Reduced Shakespeare Company: The Complete History of America (abridged): Election EditionThis is the first event in what has become a very popular series that brings talented artists from around the world to Joplin for concerts and family theater events between September and June each year.  The season schedule is below, and we have high-resolution photos and more information about each of the acts if you are interested.   There is a mix of family theater, including Frog and Toad, Trout Fishing in America, and Scrooge, and world-class concerts including The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra and the St. Louis Children’s Choir.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company -- The Complete History of America (abridged): Election Edition
Who will be our next president? Donald Trump? Hillary Clinton?  Kim Kardashian? The Reduced Shakespeare Company will provide historical context that is guaranteed to confuse any American voter.  Just in time for the 2016 Presidential Election, the Reduced Shakespeare Company returns with 600 Years of History in 6,000 Seconds! The "bad boys of abridgement" go from Christopher Columbus to Neil Armstrong, from George Washington to Barack Obama, yea verily from the Bering Strait to Baghdad, from the New World to the New World Order.  Don't miss this 90-minute roller coaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History.  Join us for a reception with the artists after the show.

Fall Gala Concert Featuring Kayleen Seidl and the TJ Upper School Choir and Orchestra
Kayleen Seidl is excited to be back at her alma mater coaching current students and performing for this special community concert.  Kayleen began acting at a young age at Joplin Little Theatre and in the spring musicals at Thomas Jefferson (Class of 2009), most notably as the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie.  Kayleen trained classically at Saint Olaf College, earning a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Distinction, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.  After graduating, Kayleen moved to New York City to pursue a career in musical theatre, and recently joined the Equity Membership Candidate Program. An actress with natural charm, she was acknowledged for her “transformative vocal performance” as Sarah Brown in the Guys and Dolls National Tour. Other favorite credits include: It Shoulda Been You(Rebecca Steinberg), Eddie and the Palaceades (Midtown International Theatre Festival, Best Supporting Actress nomination), Show Boat (Magnolia), Oklahoma! (Laurey), Les Misérables (Cosette), and TOMMY (Mrs. Walker). This show will feature performances by TJ’s Upper School Choir and Upper School Orchestra.

TJ Family Theater: Scrooge, by Midwest Regional Ballet
The Midwest Regional Ballet brings this winter tradition to Joplin.  The company has delighted audiences around the world with its magical performances, and you do not want to miss their visit to the TJ Concert Hall. The professional and creative performers from Midwest Regional Ballet bring the story of Ebenezer Scrooge to the TJ stage for what promises to be an unforgettable telling of this classic Christmas tale.  The performance will feature aerial acrobatics and some of the most talented ballet dancers in the region.

TJ Family Theater: A Year With Frog and Toad
A hit on Broadway, A Year with Frog and Toad was nominated for three Tony Awards – including Best Musical.  Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, and featuring a hummable score by Robert and Willie Reale, this whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons.  Join us for a reception with the artists after the show.

Trout Fishing in America
Trout Fishing in America is Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet, and this will be their third appearance on the TJ Concert Hall Stage. They have been writing songs and playing music together for the last 38 years, and have received four Grammy Nominations and a host of other national music awards. Their live performances have earned them a place in the hearts of children and parents everywhere. This is music for people who take their fun seriously, and the duo will host a songwriting workshop for children at 3 p.m.

The St. Louis Children’s Choir
The St. Louis Children’s Choirs includes over 450 young singers, ages 6-18, representing more than 200 schools in Missouri and Illinois. Concert Choir is comprised of students from 12 to 18 years old.  The St. Louis Children’s Choirs has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, at the White House in Washington, D.C., at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, and serves as the official young treble choir of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. As musical ambassadors, the singers have toured to Austria, Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Germany, Japan, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Wales.

The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra
An outdoor concert at the sun sets, this evening will be an excellent opportunity to learn how to swing dance.  With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world.  Join us for a reception with the artists after the show.
