The Crowder College Speech and Debate team competed in the first tournament of the season at Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, MO. Crowder competed against 18 schools representing seven states. The Novice squad took Top Community College and secured wins against some of the best schools in the state.
Students competing included:
Logan Johns (Diamond) placed in the top 15 in Dramatic Interpretation and Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Christi Russow (Neosho) was the 8th ranked speaker overall as a Lincoln-Douglas debater and in the top 15 in Progral Oral Interpretation.
Brandon Pace (Neosho) is new to debate and competed very well against Truman State University and University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Kenzi Beard (Saint Roberts) participated in Impromptu Speaking and Public Forum Debate with partner Billy Ketcherside.
Billy Ketcherside (Brighton) was top placing performer in Impromptu Speaking over students from Truman, Kansas Wesleyan, and Cameron University.
Junior Monares (Rogers, AR) went to observe the competition in preparation to compete at the next tournament.
The team will be travel to Southeast Oklahoma State University Oct 21-23 for their next tournament.
Crowder’s Speech and Debate team is coached by Kristen Stout. Stout is in her second year at Crowder after coaching at Republic High School.
